Delivery issues which saw hundreds of KFC sites close last month after running out of chicken have continued this week as the group suffers a gravy shortage.
Last month, the 900-strong chicken restaurant was forced to close or reduce the opening hours of more than 600 branches after they ran out of the group’s key ingredient.
On 14 February, KFC changed its distribution network from Bidvest to DHL with a spokesperson for the company saying its delivery partner had experienced “teething problems”.
Many re-opened restaurants are continuing to offer a limited menu due to disruptions in gravy supply.
A spokesperson said: “We’re working as hard as we can to get this sorted out. We know that our gravy is a big favourite!”
Fiona Cincotta, a senior market analyst at City Index said: “First it was a chicken shortage now it’s gravy’s turn as distribution issues at KFC show no sign of abating. The problems continue to roll as newly appointed DHL fail to get a handle on supply issues. These problems are turning KFC in to a bit of a laughing stock, but on a more serious note appointing DHL, a firm large enough to undercut the specialist supplier Bidvest, was a prime example to taking cost cutting too far and losing sight of basic company necessities. KFC will be kicking themselves for this decision for some time to come.”
Police have warned people against calling to report the issue. Yesterday, Greater Manchester Police released a recording of a 999 call from a man upset about the temporary closure of his local KFC.
